Sopore, Nov 20 (KNO): Sopore Police organised a cycling race under the Civic Action Programme to promote youth engagement, fitness and road safety.
Police spokesperson, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said the students from several schools across Police District Sopore took part in the event, with ADC Sopore Shabir Raina flagged off the race in the presence of senior police officers.
The competition ended with a felicitation ceremony chaired by SSP Sopore Iftkhar Talib. Students received mementoes. The top three performers in the male and female groups won cash prizes of 8000 rupees, 5000 rupees and 2500 rupees.
SSP Talib said cycling builds discipline, fitness and responsible road behaviour. He said such events help students grow in confidence and prepare them for larger sporting platforms.
The SSP said the race was part of a wider youth outreach effort. He said sports activities help guide young people toward productive spaces. He added that the police will continue similar programmes in different fields.
He said a volleyball tournament will be held in the coming days. He urged residents to take part in the civic action activities—(KNO)
